Second-order humor today February 28, 2007

Writer Bhupesh Bhandary’s sloppy writing comes to aid today, as we see at the end of this post. Being a reasonable cricket follower, I did not know this about Kapil Dev ( and his sense of humor ).

…Actually, the last time he did commentary in the mid-1990s, he didn’t really cover himself with glory – after a West Indies batsman was hit on the groin, Kapil had said that his wife had some serious reasons to get worried.

“People don’t have a sense of humour. It would have been a totally different matter had a gora said it,” Kapil says.

So more evidence that good timing in the field doesn’t follow you everywhere. ( Although I kind of tend to agree with that last part, especially how things were 15 years back. )

Ofcourse, the second order humor here is that the sentence “Kapil had said that his wife had some serious reasons to get worried..” could even refer to Kapil Dev’s wife. Probably should have read thus :

…Actually, the last time he did commentary in the mid-1990s, he didn’t really cover himself with glory – after a West Indies batsman was hit on the groin, Kapil had said that the batsman’s wife had some serious reasons to get worried.
